Fresh U.S. data showed August core CPI rising 2.9% m/m and holding at 3.1% y/y (in line with forecasts), while PPI cooled further—strengthening the case for a Fed rate cut on September 17.
Markets now overwhelmingly price a 25 bps cut to 4.00–4.25%, with a small—but potent—chance of a 50 bps “jumbo cut.”
Traders expect up to three cuts before early 2026. Meanwhile, gold has surged to ~$3,670/oz and Bitcoin sits above $115K, underscoring the bid for hard assets amid sticky inflation, fiscal strain, and cautious easing.
Why it matters: A 25 bps trim will likely support steady risk-on momentum, while a 50 bps surprise could supercharge the rally — especially in crypto. Expect heightened volatility in the week ahead.
Crypto Market Highlights
Macro backdrop: Inflation is easing, and markets expect the Fed to start cutting rates soon. That’s bringing retail traders back and drawing in large institutional investors.
- Bitcoin (BTC): After starting the month near $108K, BTC is now trading around $115K. Demand from U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs — especially from BlackRock and Fidelity — continues to drive momentum.
- Solana (SOL): Money is rotating from Bitcoin into major altcoins. After Ethereum’s strong run, SOL is next in line. Galaxy Digital has bought about $530M of SOL, while some companies are beginning to hold crypto in their treasuries.
